Appointments
Appointments
Some bookable on the day appointments for GP’s will be offered on a first come, first served basis. When these appointments are all taken we will publish on our Facebook page that the pre-bookable appointments are filled.
Nurse and Phlebotomy appointments are available to book up to 6 weeks ahead.
For emergencies during working hours you should telephone the centre on 414874 preferably between 08:00 - 10:00am, When you telephone please give the receptionist, clearly, your date of birth, name, address, a contact telephone number and the nature of the problem.
Telephone Advice
The Practice is always happy to provide advice to you if you are concerned about a health problem. There is a duty senior nurse/nurse practitioner or a duty doctor available each day subject to house call commitments. Please leave details with the receptionist – the duty staff will contact you, occasionally this may not be possible until later in the day or even the following day. For advice calls it is best to try to ring late morning or early afternoon.
Fit Note Requests
You can telephone to make requests such as repeat medical certificates (Fit Notes) etc. Such requests will be noted by our reception staff and passed to your usual doctor. Such requests are only dealt at the end of surgeries and depending upon the doctor’s availability. For this reason please ensure that you allow at least seven working days for the request to be dealt with.
Cancellations
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
Home visits
Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:00.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
Been off work
Sickness Certificates
You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.
Evidence that you are sick
If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).
It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.
You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.
Statement of Fitness for Work - ’Fit Note'
The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.
For more information see the DirectGov website (where this information was sourced).
Training Practice
Medical Education
Primrose Lane Medical Centre is a training practice offering training and experience in general practice to General Practice Specialist Trainees (fully qualified doctors undergoing training in General Practice). As part of their training they have to produce video evidence of a selection of their consultations. You will be asked when you book your appointment and also when you arrive at reception desk if you are willing to consent to your consultation being recorded. You will be asked to sign a consent form before and after your consultation. A recording will not be made of any consultation without your consent and if requested at any time during your consultation, the camera will be switched off. The recording is only shown to doctors concerned with GP training and all recordings are destroyed within 6-months.
ScotGEM Medical Students
The practice hosts ScotGEM Medical Students from St. Andrews University. You will be informed in advance if one of the medical students will be present during your consultation and the GP will request your permission for them to remain in the consulting room during your consultation
